![]() ![]() Storming The Fortress / Forgotten Castle (castle action/ambient) 14:40 gives me chills every single time. Really nice chord progression and buildup Depressing stuff.Ĭity Rubble Rumble / Navigating The Dark City (city action/ambient) Theme of Emberlight, city of gremlin outcasts. ![]() These are also used in guild halls, so listening to them brings back a lot of (bettersweet?) memories. Calm and relaxing but with a hint of sadness.Īs The Clocks Tick / Encounter Clockwise / The Gears Keep Turning (clockwork action/ambient) Sky Island Skirmish / Traversing the Aurora Isles (sky islands day action/ambient) I got my tracks straight from game files, but here's Volume I for reference: I haven't played in ages but I still have a playlist I listen to now and then. The levels themselves didn't change, just the music did, but this change alters the entire player perception of the levelset. With the music change to its current song, it turned the levels into a fast paced panic where enemies are flying all over your screen and you're constantly in danger of being bit by the grimalkin. One way to see this is to play through a candlestick keep with the music on - prior to the new music being created, it played the same music as a graveyard, which made the place seem ominous, slow, and spooky. While the common background music is nothing to write home about (clockwork tunnels, status variants), they do fit their environment. Artistic direction for visuals is amazing, sound and music design is wonderful, story elements are present yet they don't get into your face too hard, actual gameplay is smooth and very satisfying, etc. Spiral Knights is one of those games that sets its themes very well. However I do enjoy listening to game soundtracks (primarily Spiral Knights, Payday 2, Undertale, OG Binding of Isaac). I don't really listen to much music, and am quite content sitting in silence most of the time. The Spiral Knights soundtrack is really something special. Or how Halloween in Haven has a spooky yet oddly goofy feel to it that perfectly reflects the Punking. On the other hand, the Royal Jelly Palace is light and goofy, reflecting the somewhat silly nature of a sovereign slime.īut even simple moments like waking up to Winterfest and hearing the winter Haven theme for the first time, reminds me of Christmas morning. The Ironclaw Munitions Factory is dark, with a mechanical feel to it, emphasizing the industrial nature of the environment. In general, most of the boss strata themes do a good job establishing the atmosphere of the places they represent. The dry sound really meshes well with the aesthetic of the citadel. Nonetheless, I like how it takes an almost Egyptian approach, like the type of music you'd hear in the middle of a hot desert. Admittedly, it loses most of its luster after grinding the place a thousand times. Though it hasn't been mentioned before, I quite like the Firestorm Citadel themes (For example, the FSC battle theme). I never realized that Whitespace Swarm was a remix of the main theme until Fangel pointed it out. The various Whitespace themes do a great job setting up the atmosphere of the terrifying yet mysterious entity. Off the top of my head, the example that has been mentioned the most: The Swarm. It's one of my favorites in video gaming. It's very suiting that the "final music" you hear in this game is a remixed version of the first song you ever get to play are so many moments that it's honestly kinda hard to pick. After reaching the end of the game, those initial memories are not even really around, but when Whitespace Swarm plays, it pulls you back into that initial wonder you had when you were first starting. You only ever hear the crash site music once, and it's always in the back of your brain since then. This is why, I believe, people are so fond of the Whitespace Swarm music. This is solidified by the tutorial level before rescue camp switching from the crash site song to the main theme after meeting up with Rhendon). You can see this by the fact that both whitespace soundtracks are meant to be played over each other, and since Whitespace Ambient is a remix of the Main Theme you can kind of put two and two together (especially since crash site is supposed to be played over the main theme, or as a lesser version of the main theme. Whitespace Swarm is actually a remix of the crash site music. I bring this up a lot but not everyone knows.
